Churches Action in Relief and Development (CARD) Recruitment 2018

Churches Action in Relief and Development (CARD), with financial support from Bread for the World of  Germany will be implementing a project entitled “strengthening Women’s Political Participation and Decision Making Power” which aims to increase the number of female candidates participating in Parliament and in  district councils and also to address harmful social and cultural norms that limit increased participation of  women in development. The project will be implemented in Thyolo and Mulanje Districts for a period of 14 months

Field Monitors (4 positions)
CARD is looking for 4 Field Monitors who will be responsible for project activity implementation in Thyoto and Muianje districts with the aim of increasing the number of women parliamentarians and councillors in the coming 2019 Tripartite Elections and their increased participation in district councils for both Mulanje and Thyolo districts.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Field Monitors will be based in Mulanje and Thyofo Districts, 2 in each of the districts and will be involved in the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Direct implementation of planned project activities in each district.
  • Directly work and collaborate with relevant stakeholders/partners in dischargiqg, duties related to elections in each district.
  • Provide technical support, training and guidance on electoral issues to the monitors of various political parties in each district,
  • Provide backstopping and support to the women aspirants on elements of running a successful campaign with support from the Project Coordinator in each district.
  • Conduct sensitisation meetings through open day events to raise awareness to encourage good social cultural norms and condemn social cultural norms that act as barriers to women participating in the electoral process.
  • Prepare monthly and end of project reports in a timely manner.
  • Taking on additional assignments, as agreed upon with the Project Coordinator, from time to time.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications

An ideal candidate for this role would have the following:

  • A Diploma in Community Development, Paralegal studies and/or other relevant disciplines.
  • Experience in working with projects aimed at influencing free and fair elections and civic education on participation in the Tripartite Elections will be added advantage.
  • Experience on holding community dialogue sessions with gate keepers and communities in identification of structural and cultural barriers preventing women from actively participating in political office.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in implementing a project involving voter and civic education activities.
  • Must be fluent in English, proficient in Chichewa and have excellent writing skills.
