In Ethiopia, GIZ has been working for more than 40 years in bilateral cooperation on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and on commission of the Ethiopian Government and International Donors.
The Agricultural Mechanisation for Smallholders (AMS) project is financed by the German Development Cooperation and implemented by GIZ. The main objective of the project is improving small-scale farmers’ productivity & incomes through mechanization and technology. AMS is working in introducing improved agricultural mechanisation on small scale farms in the Arsi zone and will soon expand to Bale (Oromija) and West-Gojam (Amhara).
To achieve its objectives, GIZ-mechanisation project is looking a qualified candidate as per the below details.
Position: Field Coordinators
Remuneration: As per the GIZ scale

Place of Work: Arsi and Bale zones (1) and West-Gojam Zone (2)
Responsibilities:
The incumbent is responsible for
· Independently coordinating and consulting all field activities of the promotion of mechanisation in the West Gojam Zone in the framework of the GIZ Agricultural mechanisation for Smallholders (AMS) project
- Facilitating and supporting training on agricultural machinery operation and maintenance.
Tasks:
- Coordinating the implementation of project activities with special focus on the promotion of mechanisation for smallholder farmers.
- Making frequent field visits to the project regions or constantly coordinating project activities at the local level.
- Coordinating mechanisation service providers (such as private, farmers’ cooperative unions) and other stakeholders in the promotion of agricultural mechanisation technologies.
- Plan and coordinate on-farm demonstration activities.
- Actively participate in field data collection and documentation.
- Liaise with partner organizations, partnering GIZ projects and other local stakeholders.
- Monitoring the project progress and identifying barriers to the success of a project.
- Analysing the cooperation with partner organizations and representing the project towards decision makers at district level.
Other Duties/Additional Tasks
- Supporting international short-term consultants working with the project.
- Advising partners in local community groups, governmental and non-governmental organizations which are in line with the project implementation
- Elaborating concepts and products like handbooks, guidelines, etc.
- Consult routinely with the programme management regarding all kinds of activities
- Provide support in organisational and management questions

Job Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
· BSc/MSc Degree in agriculture, agricultural economics, agricultural mechanisation or related field
· Minimum of 5 years of relevant occupational experience in a similar position
- Good working knowledge of common computer programs (MS Office)
· Working experience in international development cooperation organisations
· Excellent inter-personal and communication skills
- Very good command of English and fluency in Amharic; additional Ethiopian languages are a plus
