Fhi360 Jobs Vacancies 2018

1.     Objective of the Assignment

FHI 360, through the USAID Caring for Vulnerable Children Activity, seeks to recruit six (6) Qualitative Data Collectors to be engaged in the planned Baseline Survey to establish benchmark values for key indicators against which program contributions will be measured at the end of the program.

FHI360 is currently implementing the USAID Caring for Vulnerable Children (CVC) project in 126 woredas/towns spread across four regions of Amhara, Oromia, SNNPR, Tigray – and two City Administrations – Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa to reach a total of 325,000 HIV-impacted vulnerable children in five years (May 2017 to 2022). The project, funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)/Ethiopia is implemented at the community level through 22 Local Implementing Partners under the leadership of GOE’s Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs (MoWCA), Ministry of Health, HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Office (HAPCO), and Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs (MoLSA). The project is designed to improve health and wellbeing outcomes for Orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) in Ethiopia.

3.     Scope of Work – Qualitative Data Collectors

The baseline assessment survey will be conducted in 22 targeted Woredas/towns of the implementing regions of Amhara, Oromia, SNNPR, Tigray, Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa – at household level – using both quantitative and qualitative methods.  The assignment requires six (6) Qualitative Data Collectors with the following scope of work:

§  Able to fully avail his/her time during the study period

§  Review the protocol, understand the purpose of the data collection and internalize the qualitative data collection tools

§  Participate in the qualitative study tools orientation and operating procedures training;

§  Pre-test the tools as guided by FHI 360

§  Seek assent with the informants before starting interviews

§  In consultation with FHI 360 field data collection team, identify suitable venues to organize interviews

§  Conduct Focus Groups Discussions (FGDs), In-depth Interviews (IDIs) and Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) with specified and relevant informants as scheduled by the coordinator/principal investigator

§  Transcribe all data collected in local language – transcription in English language from the local language

§  Attend daily debriefs with FHI 360 field staff to review transcripts and discuss potential improvements for field implementation

§  Safeguard the confidentiality of study participants, conducting each interview in a location where participants feel comfortable offering candid responses

§  Take notes of from overall observation during the interview and field work, and report to FHI 360

§  Report challenges faced to the field supervisor immediately and provide input for field report

§  Maintain and distribute tokens of appreciation to participants in FGDs and IDIs, maintain records, and submit the appropriate records of distribution to the field supervisor

§  Be responsible for audio recorders and other equipment provided for field work until they are returned to FHI 360

§  Attend follow up meetings/be available to discuss field work upon completion

Job Requirements

4. Qualifications

The Qualitative Data Collectors must be individual consultants with relevant academic qualifications and professional experience. Specifically, the qualifications are as follows:

§  Should have a minimum of Masters Degree in social studies, preferably in Public Health, Development Studies, Sociology, Social Work, Anthropology, Gender Studies and related.

§  At least five (5) years of experiences in qualitative study – conducting IDI, FGD, KII

§  Experience in using qualitative analysis software such as NVivo.

§  Practical experience in transcription from local language (Amharic, Afaan Oromo, Tigrigna) to English

§  Proficient in using equipment such as audio recorders; and ability take detailed interview notes as back-up.

§  Excellent inter-personal skills particularly with people of different backgrounds.

§  Excellent coordination and problem-solving skills including ability to effectively manage and coordinate qualitative study participants.

§  Proficiency in one or more of the local languages – Amharic, Afaan Oromo and/or Tigrigna.

§  Excellent reading, writing, listening and comprehension/analytical skills in English as well as in one of the local languages

§  Work experience in OVC programming (Health and HIV, Education, Economic Strengthening, Food/Nutrition) is an advantage
