Job Description
HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation is an international development organization based in Zurich, Switzerland and has been operating for several decades worldwide. HELVETAS is registered in Ethiopia as a foreign charity to operate in the working areas of Rural Infrastructure, Natural Resources Management, Support to Civil Society Organizations and Local Government, Skill Development and Education, and Emergency Responses. As defined in its Country Strategy 2019-2023, HELVETAS aims to improve the living conditions of socially and economically disadvantaged women and men by promoting and supporting innovative, inclusive and sustainable development predominantly in marginal areas and emerging towns of Ethiopia. It aims to do so through a combination of implementation and facilitation and acknowledging that innovation requires demonstration, in partnership with local organisations and institutions.

Terms and Conditions
Duty station: Addis Ababa, with frequent travel to regions and projects
Duration: until 31st December 2021 (renewable)
Major Duties and responsibilities:
- As a member of the Country Management Team, the Head Human Resources (HHR) leads the country’s Human Resources (HR) function, which focuses on supporting the HR operations and development work in the country, in line with HELVETAS global guidelines and procedures on a national level, and in accorance with national legislation. The HHR relates with the Finance & Administration Officers in the satelite offices and the Project Managers in the fulfilment of the tasks.
- The HHR implements HR plans, programs and procedures at country level for all HELVETAS staff as well as execute related administrative tasks, within the global HR strategy, guidelines and policies, aligned to relevant regulations and in consultation with the Country Director and HR Department in Switzerland, aimed at successful implementation of the HR strategy, resulting in the right number and quality of motivated staff in Ethiopia.
- Overall Targets: HR strategy for HELVETAS Ethiopia, Management and HR advice, External relationships, HR administration and reporting, Workforce management, Organizational design, Compensation and benefit, HR development, Safety and employee wellbeing.
Job Requirements
Qualification
- Master’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration and other relevant fields from recognized university
Experience
- 10 years’ experience in the areas of Human Resource out of which at least 3 years in managerial position in NGO
Skills Required
- Ability to develop organizational plans and policies
- Decision making ability
- High sense of confidentiality and diplomacy
- Approachable and able to mentor others
- Good command of understanding and interpreting the national labor law and employment norms and practices in the country
- Excellent command of English language, writing, reporting and communication skills
