Job Description

Health Development and Anti Malaria Association (HDAMA), an Ethiopian Residents Charity, not for profit and nongovernmental organization committed to prevent and control the spread of malaria, HIV/AIDs, climate related and communicable diseases, and reproductive health problems, mitigate their impact and there by contribute to improve the health of the most vulnerable segment of the society by creating awareness, enhancing environmental protection, comprehensive knowledge, and mobilizing the community through partnership and networking with stakeholders.

HDAMA welcomes applications for the position of Project Accountant as described below.

Duties and Responsibilities

Basic function of the position:

  • Ensure monthly obligations (income tax, pension, provident fund, and withholding taxes) are settled on time.  Prepare the necessary forms for submission to Ethiopian Revenue & Customs Authority.
  • Ensure that all payments are prepared on time and in accordance with all financial guidelines and approval procedure including processing check payments to supplier and staff on a timely basis
  • Ensure that all payments are supported by appropriate documentation as required by donor regulations and are allocated to the appropriate budget category.
  • Ensure that all expenses are properly authorized and documented before payment
  • Review purchasing, travel and other financial transactions for accuracy, completeness, proper authorization and compliance and make sure all expenses are settled timely.
  • Responsible for the preparation of vouchers, and data entry on Accounting software
  • Maintain filing systems for all financial and accounting records and verify the completeness of the documentation as per the government regulations & donor requirements
  • Monitor the expenditures to ensure that program funds are utilized appropriately by the close of the fiscal year.
  • Responsible for preparing monthly payroll and  bank reconciliation
  • Responsible for reviewing petty cash payments and preparing its replenishment as per the associations financial policy
  • Assist yearend Audit schedules and provide all documents required by the auditor during the audit as well as answering some audit queries as needed.
  • Handle any other responsibilities as assigned by immediate supervisor.

Job Requirements

Qualifications required

  • B.A Degree in Accounting
  • Basic knowledge of Peachtree, quick book knowledge is advantageous
  •  Oral and written proficiency in Amharic and English is required

Relevant experience

  •  Four (4) years relevant experience, NGO experience is an advantageous.
