International Community School of Addis Ababa Jobs Vacancies 2018\

  • Help with completing day-to-day preparations for therapy (retrieving students for pull-out sessions, copying papers, gathering and creating materials, creating PECS boards and books, etc.).
  • Collaborate with the speech-language pathologist to facilitate high quality small work groups or work with individuals with identified speech and language needs following through with established goals. This includes and is not limited to, planning for individual or small group instruction, organizing resources and materials, planning activities and monitoring student progress.
  • Work together with the speech-language pathologist to maintain and promote a positive collaborative team-based relationship.
  • Observe, participate and/or actively contribute to parent teacher conferences.
  • Participate in regular meetings with the speech-language pathologist and contribute to planning and discussion/reflection related to professional role and responsibilities.

  • Maintain a professional attitude and honor the ICS way.
  • Exhibit patience, sensitivity, understanding and flexibility when working with all individuals.
  • Maintain awareness and concern for meeting the individual needs of each and every child on the SL caseload.
  • Observe and apply various teaching styles and techniques.
  • Take initiative to assess class and therapy situations and support teachers and students as needed.
  • Apply past experiences and unique skills when working with children and in bringing new ideas to the learning environment.
  • Collaborate with teachers, TAs and other related school personnel so that a support network is formed that promotes professional learning, collegiality and teamwork.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology/Special Education or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a teaching assistant in an educational setting and experience working with special needs children who require extra support is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated understanding of recent trends in education for students in need

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

  • Have the understanding and the experience in positive classroom management & discipline procedures
  • Have the skill to support students with emotional or behavioral problems and helps develop their social skills.
  • Ability to manage children and cope with challenging behavior
  • Ability to build good relationship with children, teachers and parents
  • Effective communication skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Be a proactive problem solver in addressing student and teacher needs
  • Can make decisions that are routine in nature with clearly defined procedures.
  • Can work under general supervision while independently and proactively completing routine assignments and asking questions when instructions are unclear, new, or difficult.
  • Can communicate effectively, with good English, with parents as delegated.
  • Can model and promote collaborative work
  • Able to treat students, teachers and any other staff in a professional and respectful manner
  • Expected in keeping identified students’ evaluation progresses and records confidential.
