The Lutheran World Federation Word Service Ethiopia (LWF/WS Ethiopia) is a registered foreign charity which has been operating in Ethiopia since 1973 implementing various development and humanitarian projects in different parts of Ethiopia.  LWF is currently looking for professionals with following post fulfilling the following criteria.

Purpose of the Position:

The position supports the Team Leader to successfully implement activities and Interventions in water supply to contribute to wellbeing of the people of concern. Specifically the Water Engineer will guide and supervise implementation of Water supply projects in Sheder and Awbarre Refugee Camps, support development of staff and community capacity building in WASH, participate in mobilization of WASH resources and ensure implementation is done in close collaboration with LWF staff, the local community, line government ministries and other relevant agencies. In order to successfully do so, the Water Engineer must be able to effectively communicate LWF’s values and demonstrate exemplary service to others.

Duties and Responsibilities

He/she shall:

  • Produce technical drawings, design documents, construction specifications, bill of quantities & construction schedule for the water works to be carried out in the project area.
  • Prepare annual, quarterly and monthly work plan of operation for water supply scheme and related works based on the project document,
  • Facilitate water provision to refugee community and identified host community members on time with the needed quantity and quality in accordance with UNHCR standards.
  • Support formation, training and facilitation of WASH committees to participate in WASH activities.
  • Provide support in implementation of Water supply projects to ensure quality, effectiveness and timely implementation.
  • Develop comprehensive preventive maintenance schedule for water pumps, motor, generators and distribution and facilitate timely service and maintenance of the facilities.
  • Conduct/facilitate trainings on water usage/conservation to the refugee and the host communities,
  • Conduct/facilitate awareness raising meetings/campaigns for the refugees and the host communities on their role in implementation of WASH activities.
  • Prepare necessary weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual progress reports and best practices and submit to the Senior Team Leader on time.
  • Ensure all Water supply data comprising L/P/D, water trucking, water quality, training reports among others are compiled and shared in line with LWF guideline and UNHCR requirement.
  • Ensure budget control and utilization for Water supply activities in line with implementation plan.
  • Facilitate coordination of Water Supply activities with Woreda, UNHCR and ARRA and other partners in Sheder and Awbarre Refugee Camps.
  • Participate in development of timely and accurate funding proposals in line with donor requirements and LWF standards in collaboration with other sector heads.

Job Grade:  9

Accountable to:  The Senior Team Leader

Employment Term:  Up to December 2018 with possibility of extension

 

Job Requirements

Required Qualification:

  • Masters or Bachelor Degree in Water Supply Engineering or Water Resource Engineering or Hydraulic Engineering or any other related discipline with minimum of 2 years’ related experience for MSc and 4 years for BSc degree.

Key skills/characteristics required:

  • Excellent written and oral English language skills
  • Ability in leading a team
  • Ability to perform under pressure, harsh environment  and creative in solving problems;
  • Ability of planning for better future and crisis management
  • Computer Literate
