Introduction

The Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome (MLW) Programme (http://www.mlw.medcol.mw) isan internationally recognised centre for research and research training, funded bytheWellcome Trust. In collaboration with the University of Malawi, College of Medicine(COM), MLW would like to engage the services of a competent and dynamic individualto work in an exciting Research Programme (SCALE) at the MLW Research facility as it isexpanding.

Radiographer – 1 post, based in Blantyre (initial 1 year contract with potential forfurther extensions)

Job Summary:

To manage process of assessing ana enrolling eligible study participants into SCALE and associated studies and prepare study participants in order to capture high quality images of diagnostic value. Furthermore, the job holder is responsible for administrative roles pertaining to the diagnostic procedures and field activities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Screening and recruiting research participants in accordance with study protocol.
• Conducting initial study participant / patient evaluation and explain imaging procedures to participants.
• Preparing and carefully position study participants or patients in order to get high quality images (of organs, bones, and tissues) that are of diagnostic value.
• Providing diagnostic and evidentiary data (x-rays, images etc).
• Participating in organization of outreach programmes for TB diagnosis.
• Identifying challenges with study procedures and forms and report for review.
• Promoting radiation safety and infection prevention and control as per MOH/MLW Standards and protocols

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Diploma or Degree in radiography, radiology or closely related discipline.
• Registered with relevant professional bodies.
• Possess at least 2 years’ experience in the area of radiography.

Other Required Competencies and Attributes.

• Technological skills to handle imaging equipment, namely portable digital-x-raymachine.
• Interpersonal skills necessary for patient or study participant care and properly working within a diverse team.
• Good organizational and communication skills.
• Fluent in both written and spoken Chichewa and English
• Conversant with good clinical practices.
• Trustworthy and accountable on project consumables.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Possession of good decision making skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of study participants.
• Ability to work and deliver under pressure.
• Possession of research experience is an added advantage.
