Introduction
The Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome (MLW) Programme (httpl/www.mlw.medcol.mw) is an internationally recognised centre for research and research training, funded by the Wellcome Trust. In collaboration with the University of Malawi, College of Medicine (COM), MLW would like to engage the services of a competent and dynamic individual to work in an exciting Research Programme (PneumoCHlMdh, MARVLES and Lung Health) at the MLW Research facility as it is expanding.
Senior Data Manager 1 post, based in Blantyre (initial 1 year contract with potential for further extensions)Job Summary
Under the technical supervision of the Senior Data Systems Manager (SDSM), and with assistance from the Project Investigators & Senior Statistician be responsible for developing data models to ultimately construct a database for the PneumoCHlMdb, MARVELS and HDRU clinical projects. This will include:
Reviewing existing CHIM data sets to understand the nature of CHIM data
Interviewing users to determine the data generation, aggregation, reporting and other requirements
Using the requirements and the results of the data profiling exercise to develop data model for the PneumoCHlMdb
Build a prototype of the PneumoCHlMdb database (both backend and frontend)and refine this in collaboration with the project investigators and other potentialusers
Developing the database and web application based on the prototype review
Developing the procedures and processes needed to populate the developed database, considering the various sources of CHIM data
Training and user support
Document the backend database and frontend application
Perform this process in parallel with a review, prototyping and back-end design for a database to hold essential clinical data to support the running and service-review of the High Dependency and Respiratory Unit (HDRU)PERSON SPECIFICATION
Qualifications
A degree in Computer Science or Information Technology related field
Experience
Substantial experience of database application development
Substantial experience in web application development
Experience with data modelling tools and techniques
Database management experience in a research setting
Experience in open access data and managing associated confidentiality
Experience of clinical data collection and manipulation
Knowledge
Demonstrated Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and / or MySQL
Demonstrated knowledge of web application development technologies
Personal Qualities
Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills, including a proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individual’s from different backgrounds
Good organisational and problem-solving skills, with an ability to identify and resolve issues and prioritise workloads
