NRC (Norwegian Refugee Council) Vacancies 2018

Being an employee of the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) in Ethiopia the Communication Officer is expected to represent NRC in a responsible manner and always act in accordance with NRC’s Code of Conduct.

 

Background:

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is present in five regions in Ethiopia, providing refugees and internally displaced people with emergency relief and help them to rebuild their lives. NRC works within the sectors of Education, Shelter, WASH, Livelihood and Food Security, ICLA (Information, Counselling and Legal Assistance), and Child Protection.

Roles & Responsibilities:

 

The purpose of the officer position is day to day implementation of the support functions responsibilities. Use actions words such as ensure, implement or assist for the position relevant responsibilities.

General responsibilities:

·         Ensure adherence with NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines

·         Implement delegated support function portfolio according to plan of action

·         Prepare and develop status reports as required by management

·         Ensure proper filing of documents

·         Promote and share ideas for improvement of the support function

·         Advice and support line managers and staff in HR processes

·         Ensure timely Processing of the monthly payroll

 

Specific responsibilities:

·         Plan, organize and participate in interviews for staff recruitment and advise process of candidate selection, contracting, orientation and confirmation.

·         Coordinate staff clearance, including conducting exit interviews and using the exit interviews to inform management decisions

·         Plan for staff welfare and team building activities and coordinate the implementation of the same with the other heads of units

·         Ensure maintenance of an effective, efficient and up to date staff records and filing system including contracts, leave, awards, discipline, archiving, etc.

·         In consultation with the AM, provide technical input and be the focal point in addressing employee relation issues including staff grievances, disciplinary measures, etc.

·         Advise on the staff performance management system and follow up for its implementation

·         Prepare and review incentive/casual contracts for approval as per the NRC guidelines.

·         Maintain and keep track of leave records and balances of all national staff.

·         Prepare periodic HR reports, capacity building plan, organogram, and planning projections for submission to Area Manager and HR staff in Addis Ababa and stick to the timelines.

Job Requirements

  • BA Degree in Management, HR, or related fields
  • Three years of work experience as an HR in development /humanitarian emergencies.
  • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Some knowledge of English
  • Local language has an added value
  • Understanding of various donors requirement
  • Ability to work under pressure
