Pastoralist Concern (PC) is a pastoralist initiated, inspired and led Civil Society Organization (CSO) committed to Ethiopian pastoralist development and founded in 1995. As our people are from pastoralist communities, we know and understand pastoralism and its dynamics not from blue prints but from having lived the life. Our vision is “to see improved and sustainable livelihood of the pastoralist communities of Ethiopia and further realize strong co-operations with neighboring countries’ pastoralist communities.”

The Project Officer will report in to the Program Director but the project requires considerable coordination and facilitation at the Head office.Keepingtrack of the deliverables of the overall project, ensure tracker is in place. Last but not least to ensure that the project keeps in line with the overall response strategy of Pastoralist Concern and the government coordinated response.

 Program implementation

  • A Project Officer provides essential support to a project, working with the Project Manager and other team members to achieve project success;
  • Ensure that Pastoralist Concern’s interventions are implemented to a high quality and effectively coordinated and managed with appropriate levels of technical support;
  • Project Officers perform many dutiesto accomplish their primary goal of providing administrative and technical skills to support a project to success;
  • Strengthen all areas of PC’s responding &providing management support and mentoring to the field-based Zonal and woreda coordinators and officers;
  • On a regular basis, Project Officer will meet with the senior team to review progress and to discuss future steps. The Project Officer also arranges meetings with the members of the project.
  • The project will organize appropriate meeting rooms and any refreshments, contact the attendees and note any who can’t attend. Before the meeting, they send out any relevant information, and they attend each meeting to take minutes.
  • The Project Officer will be responsible for maintaining crucial project documents which track project progress. They file all project documents in an appropriate database or library, and ensure that all documents are accurate and have been accepted by the Project Manager.
  • Being so closely involved in the project, the Project Officer is relied upon to identify any potential issues or risks that could affect the progression of the project. They communicate these items with the Project Manager, and work to identify potential solutions.
  • Project Officer will closely watch the project schedule, monitoring deadlines for each project task. They check regularly that every deadline is still possible, and report any potential delays to the Project Manager.
  • Ensure high quality program implementation at scale that impacts positively on the lives of pastoralist communities and other vulnerable women and children and that meets with PC’s Standard Operating Standards, and our commitments to donors, the Government of Ethiopia;

Management Location:Addis Ababa with travel to field woredas

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Science preferably social work, sociology or related field relevant to Pastoralist program themes/sectors;
  • Minimum of 0 years of relevant progressive experience in program management,
  • Excellent analytical writing skills in English& Somali;
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and working in diverse teams of national staff are a prerequisite;
  • Ability to take personal responsibility for completing tasks to a high standard and to meet deadlines;
  • Willingness to work flexibly and professionally in a dynamic and fast-moving environment;
  • Ability to work in a challenging work environment with minimal direct supervision;
  • Functioning language is English, fluency in Somali language an advantage;
  • Good knowledge and experience in Project Cycle Management and Risk Management;
  • Very good skill in influencing others and conflict management;
