5. Direct Reporting Officer              : Chief Clinical Officer.

6. Indirect Reporting Officer           : Principal Medical Officer.

7. Supervision Exercised                   : Medical Assistants.

8. Specific Duties and Responsibilities

• Diagnosing patient problems and prescribing the right treatment.
• Conducting ward rounds of admitted patients to review possible discharges as well as treatment.
• Providing advice to patients on how to take medication to ensure effectiveness.
• Supervising staff under him in their routine daily work.
• Ordering drugs and ensuring that drugs are economically used and that dangerous drugs are properly ordered.
• Preparing work schedule for members of staff under his supervision and monthly returns of patients.
• Selecting patients to be reviewed by the General Medical Officer on his routine visits and send urgent cases for General Medical Officer’s action.
• Performing normal surgical operations and attending to theatre emergencies.
• Ensure correct and complete recording of data in relevant HIMS registers and instruments.
• Ensure timely processing of data and dissemination to all relevant stakeholders including timely submission of HMIS report to designated supervisor.
• Conducting auditing of patients files to ensure quality health services.
• Performs any other duties assigned from time to time.

9. Qualifications

• Diploma in Clinical Medicine from a reputable training institution.
• Registered with the Medical Council of Malawi.
