Job Description

Supervisor (1st Level): Plant Manager

Subordinates: Mechanic and Electrician

INTERNAL: Operators, Production Manager,  Plant Manager, HR Manager, Quality Manager, General Manager

Supervisor (2nd Level): General Manager

Job Summary

Under the guidance and supervision of the production & Technical Department Manager, the Technical  Division Head is responsible for the planning, directing, coordinating and controlling activities concerned with inspection, repair and maintenance of production machine, electric power, lighting and communication systems of buildings; conferring with the Department Manager to establish administrative and operational policies and procedures; cascading long-term and tactical plans of the Division to periodic action plans; monitoring the installation, maintenance and repairs of a variety of machines & equipment’s; delegating tasks to subordinates with commensurate resources & authority and monitors the execution of the same; ensuring that the maintenance system of the company gives a continuously reliable service and is backed by standby generators preparatory to possibilities of blackout; ensuring that the instrumentation of the company’s power supply system and control panels of electronic systems are installed, regularly inspected, serviced & kept effectively operational; assessing the spare part stock available for machine & equipment’s maintenance in kind and quantity, working out the estimated requirements for operation periods and determining the procurement needs of the period for incorporation in the company’s purchasing plan; producing and submitting performance reports of the work unit periodically or as needed.Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, directs and controls the duties & responsibilities delegated to the work unit;
  • Communicates policies and procedures to subordinates and monitors to ensure that policies and procedures are effectively observed;
  • Cascades long-term and tactical plans of the Division to periodic action plans;
  • Assesses the spare part stock available for maintenance work  in kind and quantity, works out the estimated requirements for operation periods and determines the procurement needs of the period for incorporation in the company’s purchasing plan;
  • Ensures that the power supply system of the company gives a continuously reliable service and is backed by standby generators preparatory to possibilities of blackout;
  • Conducts need identification, designs and installs after approval electrical equipment, mechanical parts components, instrument & related facilities;
  • Ensures that the instrumentation of the company’s power supply system and control panels of electronic systems are installed, regularly inspected, serviced & kept effectively operational;
  • Monitors and coordinates electrical repair and mechanical maintenance tasks such as replacing switches and wiring installations and the whole power supply system;
  • Monitors the proper functioning of appliances, generators, transformers, control devices, relays and electronic equipment;
  • Instructs, advises and monitors subordinates on maintaining and repairing the utility systems such as cooling, heating and ventilating systems of machines.
  •  Ensures that incidents of outage caused by technical failures faults with the company’s internal power, machine line and other elements of the production system are promptly and effectively handled by the technical staff;
  • Follows up records of daily operations such as inspections, repairs and maintenance tasks completed or scheduled or worker absenteeism to maintain knowledge of divisional activities;
  • Sees to it that the company’s production machines are  equipment is regularly inspected, serviced and kept in efficient and effective operation;
  • Administers and executes other duties and responsibilities of the Division as required by immediate supervisor

Tools, Equipment and Work Aids:

  •  Operates computers aided engineering and some minor machines

Job Requirements

 Education, Training and Experience:

  • BSC degree in Electrical/ Electronic Engineering and  6 years related work experience, out of which 2 years in supervisory position/s

Working Conditions:

  • An indoor office atmosphere with frequent visit to the workshop and factory floor.

  • The job holder is expected to have a good caliber allowing him/her to influence subordinates to behave in the desired manner
  • The job holder is expected to have creative decision making skills in problem solving and designing new way of doing things
  • The job holder is expected to plan, organize, coordinate, and control the tasks of the division in a way that ensures systemic approach is followed so that consistency and validity of performances can be verified any time over the processes
  • The job holder is expected to set optimum performance standards possible for staffs under his/her supervision to achieve the set objectives
  • The job holder is expected to reflect and maintain high level of ethical standard and integrity in managing his/her unit
  • The job holder is expected to reflect acceptable level of independence where actions and decisions are taken rationally and based on personal conviction and company principles
  • The job holder is expected to design and implement an effective control system over the process and resources under the supervision of the division.
