Background to MonRev Consult Ltd
MonRev Consult was founded by a group of professionals from diverse backgrounds and with broad expertise in Research, Monitoring and Evaluation. Founded in 2013, it was dully registered in 2016 in accordance with the provision of the Business Registration Act (No. 12 of 2015). MonRev focuses on research, monitoring & evaluation and capacity building or training. Our vision is to support various development efforts through provision of accurate and high quality research.
We are specialists in the following areas: programming of Electronic Research Questionnaires using ODK, MagPi and web-based data capture; survey planning and implementation;training in use of statistical packages; data analysis and report writing. MonRev is one of the leading organisations in training mobile data collection tools such as ODK in Malawi. The training is also customised for any organisation or institution that wants to migrate from paper questionnaires upon request and delivered at their preferred location.
Open Data Kit (ODK) – Mobile Data Collection
Mobile-Phone Based Data Collection using ODK has been acknowledged world-wide by researchers, non-governmental organisations, relief agencies and health ministries, among other organisations, as a very useful and convenient method of data collection, compared to the traditional paper forms. As a professional with skills in this form of data collection, you will become very valuable to potential employers and significantly increase your career opportunities.
Why this ODK Training?
The goal of this training is to give the participant the ability to put in place all the pieces required for a mobile data collection system using ODK.
Target participants are M&E and research professionals, data officers, enumerators, research assistants and those who aspire to work in the field of M&E and research but have no prior experience. If you are already working, this training will provide you with the knowledge and skills needed to confidently use this method and contribute more effectively to your organisation. If you want a career in M&E or research, the knowledge of ODK that you will acquire will be a very valuable skill to add to your CV. No matter your career or education background, this training will allow you to quickly understand ODK for both simple and more complex tasks during your data management process.
This training will be conducted through learning by doing approach using slides, hands-on computer exercises and hands-on tablet or phone exercises.
Training Outline:
Module 1: Introduction to mobile phone data collection
Module 2: Designing a form using XLSforms
Module 3: Uploading the form to aggregate & sending to Android phone or tablet
Module 4: Setting server preference on android phone
Module 5: Data collection
Module 6: Submitting completed data to aggregate server
Module 7: Exporting data from ODK aggregate as CSV using ODK Briefcase
Module 8: Importing ODK – CSV file into statistical applications
Module 9: A brief Introduction to report writing and data analysis using Excel, SPSS and Stata
Module 10: Setting up an ODK aggregate server with Google App Engine
Requirements:
Basic understanding of computers. A laptop is a must on the day of the training (borrow one if you may).
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel or similar spreadsheet application. No prior experience in ODK, M&E or Research is required.
Duration:
This is a 2 days training program from 8th to 9th December, 2018.
Venue:
The training will be in Lilongwe at Bwaila Secondary School, opposite Civo Stadium.
