Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia is a world leading organization committed to the treatment and reintegration of patients suffering from Obstetric Fistula and the training and deployment of qualified midwives to prevent Obstetric Fistula and other child birth injuries.

HFE is founded in 1974 by Drs Catherine and Reginald Hamlin who have been caring for the women of Ethiopia for almost 40 years. In addition to our main hospital in Addis Ababa we have 5 regional hospitals, rehabilitation, and reintegration center and a midwifery school. We also deploy midwives into 34 health centers across the country and provide mentoring and other support services to these health centers.

Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia (Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital) would like to invite potential applicants for the Specialist doctor in Obstetrics and Gynecology vacant positions.

Purpose:

Provide holistic medical and psychological care for patients by evaluating patients, preparing them for surgery, providing pre and post operation care, performing gynecological surgeries and prescribing appropriate drugs and providing medical care for Hamlin fistula employees.

Duties and responsibilities:

• To conduct evaluation of new patients and order appropriate tests based on diagnosis and results.
• To conduct surgery on patients deemed physically and psychologically fit and consult with other surgeons on difficult surgeries and cases.
• To put together schedule for patient surgery.
• To monitor and ensure smooth running of operation room by ensuring that all suitable surgical equipment is available and functioning.
• To conduct daily post-operative rounds and follow up on patients and decide on appropriate post-operative care.
• To participate in night and weekend duty as per the schedule.
• To prescribe appropriate medication to patients when necessary.
• To participate in daily morning meetings with other doctors and discuss patient activity by giving priority to critical cases.
• To audit the personal performance of medical team as required,
• To provide medical care for staff and family.
• To facilitate referrals to outside hospitals for patients who need it.
• To provide theoretical and practical training to visiting specialists, national and international trainees as well as to new hires.
• To carry out international outreach fistula surgery and training.
• To represent HFE and participate in national and international meetings.
• To raise awareness on fistula cases and prevention methods.
• To participate in various medical research and publications.
• To be an active member of Medical Advisory Board and provide feedback on performance of Medicate Care Department activities.
• To perform tasks and duties of the Medical Director in his absence.
• To perform any other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Education and Experience:

• Doctor of Medicine & Certificate of specialty in gynecology/obstetric
• Specialist Doctor of Medicine (Obstetric Gynecologist)
• 2 year of experience
• Preferably those who formally resigned or completed public/ Government commitment requirement .
