HelpAge International is responding to the protection needs of conflict and drought affected internally displaced persons (IDPs) in four Woredas of Oromia region through facilitating protection monitoring and capacity building support by mobile protection teams, establishing children and women spaces in IDP sites, and providing capacity building support on gender, age and disability mainstreaming for agencies granted under EHF scheme.

Summary of the role

Responsible for the planning, implementation, supervision and technically support the emergency WASH officer in the routine /day to day/ implementation and management of hard ware activities like rehabilitation/construction/ renovation of inclusive water and sanitation structures.

Specific Responsibilities

• Responsible for the overall implementation of the WaSH interventions including planning and organizing of tasks, providing technical support to own forces or external service providers;
• Ensure timely and quality implementation of water and sanitation infrastructures constructions, rehabilitation and maintenance activities;
• in consultation with the WASH officer, organize and facilitate site level capacity building trainings for WASHCOs and scheme care takers;
• Work with government partners in planning and monitoring day to day emergency WaSH interventions at the assigned districts;
• Organize and submit weekly updates and periodic progress reports on the status of the project and works He is assigned for to the Emergency Programme Coordinator/ Manager;

Qualification, Education and Experience:

• Diploma or BSc in Water Supply and Sanitation / Hydraulic Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or another relevant field.
• Good understanding of standards and requirements in Water structures design and implementation;
• Experience with supervision, monitoring, coaching field workers including Masons, Daily laborers and etc.
• Professional experience in WASH projects implementation including assessment of water resources, designing and implementing of different technology options on water supply, hygiene and sanitation.
• Proactive and takes initiatives without the need for prompting by others.
• Good understanding of budgets and financial management;
• Ability to speak Afan Oromo
